The curious case of a Modi-bhakt.

He condemns AAP bcos it received INR 4 crs funding from NRIs. Instead he supports BJP which gets 800 crs of undisclosed funding, including from foreign companies in violation of FCRA as well as from Ford Foundation.

He condemns AAP bcos it's CM does Dharna against Union Home Minister demanding Police accountability towards safety of its citizens. Instead he supports BJP whose CM sits on Dharna for apathy towards farmers and calls for nation wide Bandhs on petrol hikes.

He condemns AAP bcos it boasts of honest and clean candidates backed by people's feedback. Instead he supports BJP which is openly giving tickets to criminals and forging alliances with corrupts and anti-national elements like Yeddyurappa, Gadkari, Uddhav Thackrey, Vaiko, Bokhariya, Sabir Ali, Pramod Muthalik and many others.

He condemns AAP bcos their volunteers cause chaos by breaking metal detectors. Instead he supports BJP whose volunteers beat up any one who dares protest in front of their office.

He condemns AAP for controlling Media by having a friendly chat with a News anchor after interview. Instead, he supports BJP for manipulating opinion polls.

He condemns AAP bcos it is against the crony capitalism of Ambanis and Adanis. Instead, he supports BJP which helps Ambanis and Adanis to keep multiplying their ill-wealth in future as well at the expense of millions of poor Indians.

He condemns AAP bcos it helped him in his monthly budget by getting a stay on upwardly revision of gas prices from $4.2 mmbtu to $8 mmbtu. Instead he supports BJP for its plan to triple his monthly expenses by recommneding the same gas price to $14 mmbtu.

He condemns AAP bcos their leader greets Tauqeer Raza at a public place. Instead, he supports BJP which sponsored Gujarat riots killing 2500 Muslims & Hindus for political gains.

He condemns AAP bcos they don't know how to govern. Instead, he supports BJP irrespective of their rampant misgovernance at all places they are elected, including Gujarat.

He condemns AAP for giving up power bcos apparently they are hungry for more power. Instead, he supports BJP whose Prime Ministerial candidate sticks to his chair when law & order deterioration went for a toss under his watch.

He condemns AAP bcos it talks only of reining Corruption & also does it. Instead, he supports BJP which talks only of ending Congress but in effect gives tickets to Congress MPs and Ministers.

He condemns AAP bcos it followed people's directive to take outside support from Congress to show them that they can govern. Instead he supports BJP who, with 32 seats, is not even interested in forming govt. and keeping Delhi waiting for re-elections on Congress' cue.

He condemns AAP bcos it filed only 3 FIRs against Shiela Dikshit in their 49 days of governance. Instead he supports BJP whose Rajasthan CM, Vasundhra Raje, has not filed a single FIR in more than 100 days against the previous corrupt Congress CM Ashok Gehlot.

The idiosyncrasy just doesn't seem to end...

Watch your head!!! A massive anti-AAP propoganda is being hurled at you!!

There are a lot of politically charged statements that are and will float around to plant seeds of doubts regarding AAP amongst the people who want a change in status quo.
The same set of statements were doing the rounds when AAP decided to focus only on Delhi. One of them that is specifically relevant to quote is…

“Arvind Kejriwal, in pursuit of his personal ambition to become CM of Delhi, has hijacked a revolutionary movement that united all Indians to sweep corruption from the entire nation.” – Narender Modi

Clearly, those making this statement wanted to tell the gullible voter that AAP’s foray should’ve been national and not just within any state (sheepishly smirking at the impossibility of the challenge).

Today, we are seeing AAP doing just that. And now, the same politickers are coming up with a new/same set of lies viz-a-viz

1.   They are Congress’ B-Team, will cut anti-incumbency votes & ultimately lead to UPA-3 - This one is deja-vu of delhi’s elections! Moreover, the sudden rise in visibility of AAP in electronic and print media makes many BJP supporters believe that its Congress' ploy to use AAP to stop BJP led NDA to come to power in 2014.

      What could also be inferred that paid media channels, something which is only a reality in India, are out there to prove their importance in impacting the LS elections outcome to the big national parties only to re-negotiate the amount of money they would charge to block all the good done by AAP and to provide a total negative clout to it!!! If in the weeks running up to elections, you see AAP's complete blackout from media or excessing negative news, you'd know, rest assured. its the only A-team for the people of this country.

2.   They are socialists, and will make Indian economy collapse – People in all capitalist developed countries, on paying taxes, expect good roads, security, guaranteed water, cleanliness, sanitation, affordable education and health services as their right and not a privilege that requires extra funds to be paid. Finally we’ve a party in AAP that understands its  responsibility towards the same…but they are been dubbed as ‘Leftists’ by those who failed to meet this.

      Yes, power rates have been subsidised, but AK himself has said that these are short term reliefs (call it obligations of a minority govt. to win confidence that it is capable of delivering), and final decision will be taken once audit of discoms is complete by Apr'14. Similarly, it is alleged that providing 20 kL free water to domestic users is a financial suicide. Firstly, it only translates to Rs 400 cr loss of annual revenue for DJB, which being a No Profit No Loss govt. firm, should have already taken this step as by 2012, it made a profit of Rs 480 cr, which instead of giving benefit to people was used to distribute to international companies for carrying out operations on behalf of DJB without any transparent grant of tender and at absurdly high prices. Expert NGOs consulting AAP believe that even after providing free water to domestic users, DJB can still stay in profit by clamping down corruption and lowering its operational cost. Now, if only one believes that govt. run DJB is a sanctum organization with highest quality of operational standards followed worldwide, then their argument of DJB bleeding money due to 20 kL of free water could be taken at face value.

3.   They are separatists, and will hand over Kashmir to Pakistan – firstly, on a personal note, ‘Secession’ is an absurd devaluation of the word ‘Referendum’. It's like interpreting your partner's "I want to talk" as "I want a divorce". Secondly, such a possibility has been categorically denied…but repetition is what keeps the Polluticians chances alive.

4.   They are newbies and their inexperience will cost the country irreparable damage - As if the country hasn’t suffered enough damage under the experienced UPA’s regime and equally experienced NDA’s opposition. Still, the newbies have shown more capabilities in running a fair and transparent election campaign against all odds that any incumbent party could match in another 50 yrs. This gives me the confidence that they will run a govt. with equal capability and more responsibility – just like Sachin’s inns in the Sydney Test Match in 1991 assured every sane person out there that they’re watching a champion in the making.

5.   The suddenly 'enlightened' new/old 'insiders' - Be it PAC member, Binny or new joiners like Capt. Gopinath, Mallika Sarabhai or Tina Sharma...a slew of 'insiders' have started to see problems with AAP and its way of working. and are amusingly advising AAP to refrain from contesting LS elections and deliver in Delhi first. Capt. Gopinath's criticism of rolling back FDI in Delhi calls the bluff of these new joiners as he must've been aware of the same thru the Party's manifesto well before he decided to join the party for doing "a service to the nation". Similarly, Binny's charges of Party drifting away from its promises talks of  vested interests since anyone can pick up the manifesto and see what work has been initiated outside of its realm.

6.   They took Congress' support to form govt. in Delhi because they are power hungry - The onus for same lies on the electorate. They should have either given a clear mandate to AAP or have opted for re-elections during referendum. Its insanity to expect AAP to form a minority govt without Congress' support in the lack of both of the factors.

7.   They are anarchists, inexperienced, vigilante, hooligansThis is like believing in the existence of an under-sea world called Atlantis. Yes, they are all of them not for the people of this country but for the corrupt officials in Delhi Police, DJB, Discoms, Govt. Schools and hospitals. These officials weren't used to of taking orders from civil class...so its an unpleasant change they need to get used to.

8.   They are US agents – This is like believing in the existence of an under-sea world called Atlantis.

This is just the starting. From January end, BJP has planned to launch a massive anti-AAP drive all across India. Interestingly, groused PAC member Mr. Binny has also declared to sit on a hunger strike from 27th Jan. Is it only me who is anticipating a handshake with BJP? One may expect many more controversies to emerge...due to political compulsions of incumbent parties, since AAP's agenda of anti-corruption hits directly at their roots.

The onus lies on individuals to choose whether they want to really change the face of the nation with a new force ‘of the civil society’ that is committed ‘to the people's good’ instead of being obligated to vested interests, or they want to persist with same old feudal politics, where sinners become saints once every 5 years.

While choosing, think only what you believe is right, and not what everybody else thinks is right. If maximum people do this, rest all will fall in place.

Whatever be your choice…it has to be exercised in 2014 only and persisted with from thereon.

Why the educated class need to BELIEVE and VOTE

India with a population of 1.2 bn, has a voting population of 800 mn, of which 700 mn are registered.

In 2009, UPA came back to power with only 58% nationwide voting (this is average turnout since independence: Source: Wikipedia). Remaining 40% of registered voters (or 50% of eligible voters) is what are called politically apathetic populace.

Of the total eligible population…50% DO NOT VOTE. Top reasons being…
1.       I’m a ghost :: “I don’t have a voter-ID card K
2.     The workhorses :: Who will finish my chores?
3.       The Yo-class! :: “Voting ain’t fashionable…dating is…or POLLDAY is a HOLIDAY…zzzzzzzz”
4.       The pessimists (or probably realists till last elections) :: “My single vote can’t change anything!!” / "Sab chor hain"

For the 50% people who DID vote…their top reasons were:
5.       Uninformed sheep :: I’ll vote for whom my friends/family is voting
6.       Optimist :: I gotto vote for my country, even if it means choosing lesser evil of the lot
7.       Financially Poor :: I’m promised Rs. 100 to a Aakash Tablet
8.       Mentally Poor :: I need reservation/subsidy/vote for candidate of my caste/religion

If the Spread of 800 mn people (equivalent to no. 80) is considered as follows based on their financial situation:
Poor: Lower: Middle+Rich = 20:28:32

As per The Hindu blog, rural & lower middle income group is more politically involved in India than the proverbial 'comfortable' group. Hence, It is reasonable to deduce that…

A. Of 48 Poor+Lower
16 drop out – mainly because of 1 or 2
30 vote for reasons 5, 7 & 8
2 vote for reason 1

B. Of 32 Middle+Rich

24 drop out – because of 3 and 4
6 vote for 5 & 8
2 vote for 6

The RESULT: While a majority of this “apparently comfortable yet opinioned” class (37.5%) remains politically non-participant or self-centered; a handful of 'Polluticians" play separatist politics, mislead the gullible, Poor+Lower (37.5%) and create their own vote banks, constituting of 45% of eligible population (36/80) and 90% of participating voters (36/40) - (14.5 {INC} + 9.0 {BJP} + 2.5 (CPI) + 1.5 (TMC) +Others)

Immediate step: Adding 24 of the non-participating middle-class suffering from 3 & 4 & swinging uninformed 4 by educating those suffering from 5 & 8, the blessed ones could be increased from 10% to 50% (4 --> 32 out of 40 -> 64) .
Subsequently; Improve the lot of those suffering from 7 & educate those suffering from 5 & 8, to make it to 60% -> 70% -> 80% of those who are blessed with 6.

To compete, the ‘Polluticians’ will need to
Spend more money to get more people suffering from 7
give up their vote-banks and join hands, even to gain simple majority, which will not be acceptable to those suffering from 8. So…BOOM

Phrasing otherwise…

Of the eligible voters, India has an educated middle class population of 300 million (38%), living comfortably, which is educationally equipped enough to process information available through print and electronic media and understands the good and bad for this country. This middle class gives priority to good governance over religious & caste-driven politics, and more importantly, their vote, can’t be bought or misused, IF CAST.

The CATCH: 80% of this populace, falls under the category of 1-4 above (mostly 2 & 4) – constituting 30% of eligible voters.
The HOPE: There is still Category-6 which perhaps forming only 5% of eligible voters are lighting a hope.
ACTION NEEDED : 5% to join force with this dormant yet likewise populace of with this 30% & swing another 5% to sweep elections with easy majority of 50%.

CONCLUSION: If this 35% of comfortable middle class ends its political apathy, register for voter-ids, research for political agendas/alternatives, get their lazy asses out of their house on Polling day believing in the power of its vote, and vote for the right candidate…rest assured, the handful people misguiding the 45% of populace and breaking their votes to rule & loot the country will find it impossible to match the nos.

If only the educated class BELIEVE and VOTE for the right people in 2014, a change will not be a miracle, but a natural outcome.

A pivotal Assembly Election for all Indians

For a next-door IT Professional who just hit 30 few months back, there are lots of things to occupy his mind viz a viz salary, competency development, promotion, team management, deliverables,  that 'extra mile' during 9.15*5 and outside that...spouse, kids, care of ageing parents, EMIs, domestic budget, delayed vacations, ignored health and what not. But for me, a perennial thought seems to be overpowering, God knows since when, and that is "Will my country ever realise its true potential?" Whether one agrees or not, this ques impacts all Indians, and we all collectively determine the answer to it by our conscious or subconscious attitude and conduct.
Talking of attitude, first of all, those of us who are reading this piece should be very grateful to almighty, for we don't have to worry about our next meal or place to sleep, quite literally. There are others who are better off than these unfortunate souls, but only marginally. And together they form a majority of the 1.3 bn Indians present on this planet. If that is the situation after 66 yrs of self-rule, two bitter ques come to mind - 1. Why did we fight for Independence for almost a century and 2. For whose independence did we fight for? Dizzying scam figures, brutal rapes, state-sponsored genocides, untamed inflation, rude and corrupt police, toothless judiciary, crony capitalists, corrupt babus and unethical, even criminal, policymakers - is all one can sense in the environment that surrounds us.
But as they say, the night is darkest at the stroke of the dawn. And the dawn did appear when a group of social activists, under the umbrella of India Against Corruption, demanded the arrogant and apathetic government a strong anti-corruption law. The hopes were brightened by the sight of public support pouring out from all sections of society, unforeseen in independent India, underlining the pain and angst shared by all citizens. The law, popularly known as Janlokpal, was all about empowering the citizens to tackle corruption at all levels, and hence give them a shot at forming a country where they can live with self-esteem.
But the incumbent politicians were not to throw in the towel just because there were anti-corruption crusaders fasting till death and the masses were out on streets supporting their fight. They played their delaying politics to ensure that the movement loses its steam. And when nothing worked, challenged the social activists to prove that they indeed got nation's backing by getting elected and framing the law themselves. Looking at the situation in hand and convinced that Gandhian ways of protesting will not get them the required law, the architect of the movement,Arvind Kejriwal, adopted the constituional way to get things done i.e. to fight elections to draft this people friendly bill, even if that meant parting ways with the soul of the movement, Anna Hazare, who was against the idea of fighting elections as a political party right from the outset.
Its true that the intentions behind forming a political party needed public scrutiny, but if someone has followed the actions of the politicians-turned-activists over the last 15 months, one would agree that the outfit is walking the talk. Whether it is their candidate selection process or disclosing their financials or keeping out tainted candidates, Aam Aadmi Party or AAP in short, is setting unprecedented examples in Indian politics, something that appeals right to the heart of an honest Indian and strikes directly at the foundation of all smeared national and regional parties.
In december this year, AAP will make its electoral debut in Delhi. The impending Delhi Assembly elections will prove to be a pivotal point for Indian politics, as this is the acid test for the people of this country. A test where their determination to have a corruption free India will be tested. While a victory will show the way to the entire country, a defeat will make the perpetrators ever so bold in their acts of looting our country and putting it to shame at the global stage.
If ever there is a time when we need to let go of our individual selfishness, and stand together shoulder to shoulder as Indians, no matter which part of the planet we live in...it's now. We have given enough chances to incumbent parties and in return, lost our faith in good politics. Lets now back our good-intentioned brethrens, who have shown the courage to take upon themselves to do what all of us wanted from the bottom of our hearts - Make India a world-class country.

Hoping 30s to be more kind!

So I'm on the verge of seeing past the "Roaring 20s". Just one more year...and will enter my "Wiser 30s".

I want to thank my 20s for seeing thru all the mistakes I made. I was too idealistic, emotionally charged up and thought I knew better. But life teaches in its own ways. Her oust from my life, and more importantly, the quickness of it, has clearly taught me who's the boss.

So, its time to move on, alone albeit. With all the humility towards life and its forces. I hope I still have the right to plan how to tread the road most taken. I hope, in my 30s, life will help me stay afloat...
